JADE CARE GUIDE

Caring for Your Jade

Real Type A jade is one of the toughest gemstones on earth — it’s meant to be worn, not locked away. A little simple care is all it needs to stay beautiful for decades. My grandmother wore hers every single day of her life, and it still looks like the day she got it.

Everyday Wear

Jade is made for daily life. There’s no reason to take it off every time you leave the house — in fact, the more you wear it, the more beautiful it becomes. Just a few small habits will keep your set looking its best.

  • Put it on last. Perfume, lotion, sunscreen, and hairspray are fine on your skin — just let them absorb and dry before sliding on your bangle and bracelet. These products can dull the surface over time.

  • Water is fine. Showering, washing dishes, even a swim — your jade handles it. What you want to avoid is prolonged soaking with soaps or chemicals, especially for the bead bracelet elastic.

  • Jade is tough. Jadeite rates 6.5–7 on the Mohs hardness scale. It doesn't chip from everyday bumps. Don't be afraid to live your life with it on.

  • Take it off for heavy work. Gardening, heavy lifting, or anything where you might hit a hard surface — better safe than sorry. Jade is tough, but not unbreakable.

  • The more you wear it, the better it looks. Your skin's natural oils gradually deepen jade's luster over time. This is a feature, not a flaw.

Cleaning Your Jade

A quick clean every few weeks keeps your jade looking its best. You don’t need anything special — just a few items you already have at home.

  1. 1

Mix mild soap with warm water.

A drop of dish soap or hand soap is plenty. Nothing harsh, nothing abrasive.

  2. 2

Dip a soft cloth or soft-bristled brush into the water.

A microfiber cloth or a baby toothbrush works perfectly.

  3. 3

Gently clean in small circular motions.

Work across the entire surface of the bangle. For the bead bracelet, clean each bead individually — don't submerge the elastic in water.

  4. 4

    Rinse with clean water.

Wipe away soap residue with a damp cloth. Again — don't soak the bead bracelet elastic.

  5. 5

Pat dry with a soft cloth.

Let it air dry completely before storing.

A note on the bead bracelet: The jade beads themselves are as tough as the bangle, but the elastic cord can weaken if soaked for extended periods. Wipe and spot-clean rather than submerging.

What NOT to use:

  • ×Ultrasonic cleaners — the vibrations can crack natural jade
  • ×Steam cleaners — sudden heat changes can stress the stone
  • ×Abrasive cloths or scrubbing pads

Storing Your Set

Proper storage is simple — jade just needs to be kept away from things that can scratch it and away from big temperature swings. Your JadeLuxe4petite set comes in a velvet pouch for exactly this reason.

  • Keep it in the velvet pouch. The pouch that comes with every JadeLuxe4petite set is soft-lined and the right size for both the bangle and bracelet. It's not just pretty packaging — it's functional.

  • Don't pile it with metal jewelry. Keys, metal bangles, and clasped necklaces can scratch jade's surface. Store your jade separately.

  • Avoid extreme temperature changes. Don't leave it on a sunny windowsill or in a car on a hot day. Consistent, room-temperature storage is best.

  • A small lined jewelry box works too. Any soft, lined container is fine — just one that keeps your jade from knocking around with harder items.

What to Avoid

Most jade care is common sense. Here’s the short list of things that can genuinely damage your set:

×

Ultrasonic cleaners

The vibrations can fracture natural jadeite — even pieces that look flawless. Never worth the risk.

×

Harsh chemicals

Bleach, acetone, nail polish remover, and strong detergents strip the stone's surface and can weaken the bead bracelet elastic.

×

Prolonged direct sunlight

Intense UV exposure over months and years can subtly affect color in some jade. Don't use your bangle as a windowsill decoration.

×

Dropping on hard surfaces

Jade is tough, but a direct impact on tile or concrete can chip or crack it. It's not fragile — just don't test it.

×

Soaking the bead bracelet

The jade beads are fine; the elastic is the vulnerability. Wipe clean rather than soak.

Is My Jade Changing Color?

Real Type A jade does not change color. If you’ve ever seen jade turn dramatically darker, yellower, or lose its vibrancy over time — that’s typically a sign of treated or imitation jade, not the real thing. Treated jade (Type B or C) uses polymer resins and dyes that break down over years of wear.

Your jade from JadeLuxe4petite is Type A — no treatments, no dyes, no fillers. It’s the same stone it was the day it was mined. The only thing that changes is the surface luster.

Over years of wear, natural jade does develop what collectors call a “jadeite skin” or patina — a very subtle deepening of glow from your skin’s natural oils absorbing into the stone’s microscopic surface. This isn’t color change; it’s the stone coming alive. It’s one of the reasons jade that’s been worn for generations looks richer than jade sitting in a case. Think of it as your jade learning your story.
